The Office of the Auditor General serves the Navajo Nation Council,
other elected officials, and managers at all levels in providing high-quality
government services to the Navajo people.

Internal Audit

The Office of the Auditor General was established to serve as the Internal Audit function for the Navajo Nation by providing independent, objective reviews of tribal government activities. The office examines and evaluates activities as a service to the Navajo Nation Council and all levels of management within the Navajo Nation. Accordingly, the office performs performance audits and provides management advisory services covering financial, operational, and information technology areas. The audit reports are shared directly with management and the Navajo Nation Council as oversight of departments, programs, and local government Chapters. The audits are performed in accordance with Government Auditing Standards.

The authority of the Office of the Auditor General is established by Title 12, Chapter 1, Sections 1-10 of the Navajo Nation Code. The Office is within the Legislative Branch and the Auditor General is appointed by the Speaker and confirmed by the Navajo Nation Council.
