The Office of the Auditor General is established by Title 12, Chapter 1, Sections 1-10 of the Navajo Nation Code.

The Navajo Nation Local Governance Act, Title 26, Chapter 1, Section 102, directed the Office of the Auditor General to review each Navajo Nation Chapter’s Five Management System Policies and Procedures and recommend governance certification to the Navajo Nation Council Transportation and Community Development Committee.
